Director of Mechanical Engineering

Kevin Sawyer, PhD

Dr. Kevin Sawyer brings more than three decades of experience in opto-mechanical system design and precision engineering to Mantis Space. He previously served as Chief Engineer at HSA Engineering Inc. in Cupertino, California, where he led the development of complex optical and mechanical systems.

Sawyer also worked at Apple Inc., leading multidisciplinary teams advancing next-generation optical devices across multiple Apple platforms. Throughout his career he has contributed to the design and development of sophisticated space-based opto-mechanical systems supporting organizations including NASA, the U.S. Air Force, and the University of California, Berkeley.

Earlier in his career, Sawyer worked as a research engineer at NASA’s Ames Research Center and has held consulting and academic roles in engineering.

‍

He holds a Ph.D. in Engineering Mechanics and Optical Sciences from the University of Arizona.
