Frequently Asked Questions
Mantis Space is a power utility company and energy technology innovator for space missions. Mantis is building a constellation of spacecraft that orbit Earth, capturing solar energy and transmitting that energy to other spacecraft in orbit.
Our spacecraft form the first infrastructure layer of a power grid in space. As industries like manufacturing and artificial intelligence expand their capabilities in orbit, power constraints are becoming a major bottleneck. Mantis Space serves as the power utility for space, delivering reliable energy to support a wide range of missions and in-orbit applications.
Any organization operating spacecraft in low Earth orbit (LEO) or beyond that could benefit from reliable, continuous power—even during eclipse. This includes satellite operators, in-space manufacturing companies, research institutions, and government missions.
Satellites rely on solar energy for power, but when they pass behind Earth they enter eclipse and temporarily lose access to sunlight. During these periods, spacecraft must rely on limited onboard batteries. Mantis Space helps overcome this constraint by delivering supplemental power when sunlight is unavailable.
Mantis satellites collect massive amounts of solar energy. Using optical systems with modern laser technology, we beam power to satellites wirelessly and directly to their existing solar arrays.
Our energy delivery infrastructure is designed to support a wide variety of spacecraft, including communications satellites, Earth observation platforms, scientific missions, orbital data centers and orbital manufacturing, habitats, and lunar operations. This technology safely and more efficiently provides spacecraft with the same or even more energy than their solar arrays would normally receive from the Sun. The Mantis power infrastructure eliminates the normal power deficit satellites experience when they pass into darkness about once every 95 minutes—known in the space industry as an eclipse period.
Most space companies focus on launch or satellite manufacturing. Mantis Space is building energy infrastructure for orbit—creating a reliable power utility that enables spacecraft and future space industries to operate longer, more capable missions.
We’re always looking to collaborate with satellite operators, mission developers, and organizations exploring new capabilities in space. If you're interested in partnering with Mantis Space or learning more about our services, please contact us through our website.
